I remember the first computer I ever used was a MS-DOS computer in the 90's. The only thing you could use to control it was a keyboard, no mouse at all. I was probably around 7 years old and I was already interested in how the computer worked. I remember playing this snake game called Nibbles. In that game, you have to control the snake with the arrows on the keyboard and move the snake so it can eat the numbers without running into itself or the walls. I used to love that game. I used to play that game like everyday after school and get frustrated when I don’t pass a certain level. I enjoyed using that computer. Somehow I learned how to input “dir” in the command line interface and other commands as well. I have been interested in software since I was a kid. In this blog, I will tell you the reasons why I want to become a software engineer.

One of the reasons why I want to become a software engineer is because I have always been naturally tech-savvy. I was always interested in computer technology and how computers work. Whenever someone comes to me for help with fixing a problem on their electronic device or computer, I try to figure out the problem and when I do find a solution and fix the problem, it feels good. Don’t you love that feeling of solving a problem? Being a software engineer requires you to constantly troubleshoot issues and have problem-solving skills.

Another reason is because there are multiple industries that I can work in as a software engineer. The use of technology is in every industry. I currently work in healthcare as a billing manager. If I wanted to stay in healthcare and work as a software engineer, I can. If I wanted to work in automotive manufacturing, I can. There are plenty other industries to work in as well.

I love video games and still play them today. It is amazing how it’s designed and put together to create something beautiful. I was always interested in how games are developed & I do have some interest in designing video games in the future. My love for video games is another reason why I am interested in becoming a software engineer.

Another reason is because technology is evolving and advancing everyday. It’s pretty cool how we came from the ABC computer and ENIAC to MS-DOS to Windows 10 and Mac computers that we have today. It’s crazy how we came from the first phone invented to the iPhone we have today. We came from riding horses as a way of transportation to airplanes and auto-pilot cars. Being in a tech career is a great investment. Employment is expected to increase in the years to come. I am interested and curious of what the future holds when it comes to technology.

Becoming a software engineer is exciting and challenging. It requires hard work and dedication for success. I have always been interested in a tech career but have never pursued it until now. I have worked in the medical field all my life and want to change into a career that I was made for. My journey so far into the software engineering program is tough and it can be confusing sometimes, but I am catching onto it. I hope that you follow me into this new journey.
